Sharpening and tightening surgical scissors

چکیده

blades, pivoted so that the sharpened edges of each blade slide against each other when the handles opposite to the joint or pivot are closed. The cutting edge of each blade is where the inner surface and the cutting surface meet (Figure 1). The two cutting edges cut as they slide over each other. The angle of the cutting surface is usually between 0 and 15 degrees from the horizontal. Scissors with a very steep angle (nearer 15 degrees) are extremely sharp and are meant for cutting soft tissues such as conjunctiva. Scissors with a less steep angle are meant for cutting harder tissues. With repeated use, the sharp cutting edges become rounded and pits or gaps can appear, making the scissors blunt. These pits will be visible as changes in the refl ection when you examine the cutting surfaces in bright light. The sharper the cutting edge, the quicker the scissors will become blunt. You should never use scissors to cut material that the scissors are not suitable for, or they will become blunt very quickly. If blunt scissors are used, the tissue will be clasped instead of cut, resulting in contusion of the tissue and ineffectual wound healing.

Automated surgical screwdriver: automated screw placement.

The use of power screwdrivers and drills for tapping and screw insertion in surgery is becoming more common. It has been established from clinical observations that the use of a small air drill for inserting self-tapping screws provides improved coaxial alignment and precision, and that the drill should be stopped before the screw head is completely seated on the plate, presumably to reduce the...

Snare technique for enucleation of eyes with advanced retinoblastoma.

Retrospective analysis of surgical outcomes for enucleation in pediatric retinoblastoma stage 5B using the snare wire loop (n = 55) and standard curved enucleation scissors (n = 22) revealed that a statistically significant longer mean optic nerve length was obtained with the snare (13.35 mm) compared with scissors (11.05 mm; P = .005). Four scissor cases had prolonged bleeding and required thr...

Ultra-Sharpening of Diamond Stylus by 500 eV O+/O2 + Ion Beam Machining without Facet and Ripple Formation

The price of single point diamond tools with a sharp tip is very high due to complex machining process and highly expensive machining equipments. Yet, the performance is not quite satisfactory. In this paper, we have presented a very simple and cost effective machining process for the sharpening and polishing of diamond stylus using low energy reactive ion beam machining (RIBM). In our method, ...
